Soul-Mates

Warning: This story may be disturbing to some, especially minors.

Peter knew the moment he had set eyes on Jenny that they were meant to be together. His ex-wife had left him 6 months ago for another woman and Peter was lonely, de-motivated, and hopeless. He had not kissed any woman in over a year, let alone have sex with any. It almost seemed to him like his young adulthood was going to waste. At 35, he was single again. And now, he felt that this young waitress who had been serving him coffee every morning at the Express Cafe was his soul-mate.

Jenny was a strikingly attractive woman. There was no denying that she was perhaps one of the most beautiful waitresses that Peter had ever known. He was particularly attracted to her olive skin, her petite stature, and her well-toned body. Jenny on the other hand, had always been intuitive that Peter had been attracted to her, and was used to this kind of attention from the cafe's customers. However, this time, the feelings were mutual. So when Peter asked her out a few days later, she was ecstatic. Within 2 months, they legally wed in a small ceremony with only 5 invited guests.

The first few weeks of wedded bliss had filled their lives with love and contentment. They had their ups and downs but essentially felt that they would not be able to live without one another as they kissed, cuddled, hugged, and embraced each other every waking moment together. However, Jenny and Peter hardly made love because Jenny was not only frigid but also suffered from vaginismus. She often felt guilt-ridden and cried her heart out after Peter went to bed after hours of futile coaxing. She wanted to please him but she could not. She wondered if Peter would at any point want to leave her for another woman devoid of sexual problems.

One day, well into the 2nd year of their marriage, her fears came true. After spending minutes trying to penetrate her, Peter lost his cool. He dragged himself out of bed stark naked, walked out of the bedroom, and slammed the door behind him. "How many times have I told you to visit a therapist?", he yelled out. Jenny felt her heart breaking when Peter did not return to the bedroom for the rest of the night. The next day, he left home for work without even kissing her good bye. Jenny spent the entire day ruminating over her woes and her past. She thought about how her father had abandoned her and her mother when she were merely three. She thought about how her first boyfriend had raped her at a fraternity party never to meet her again. She thought about how her mother had died 5 years ago. And she thought about last night. Jenny filled the bathtub with water and spent the rest of the day laying there, thinking about how she could please her husband that evening.

When Peter returned home from work at 7 pm, he saw Jenny sprawled on the bed, with her eyes half-closed. Without a word, he went into the kitchen, and saw that she had made his favorite dinner: meatloaf. Heaping a huge portion onto his plate, he ate quickly, almost swallowing without chewing. He was experiencing a unique sense of excitement that night as he continued to think about Jenny waiting for him inside the bedroom. Brushing the crumbs of his sandwich, and leaving the dirty plate on their couch, he rushed into the bedroom stripping his own clothes off on the way.

Inside their bedroom, he turned the lights off and swiftly undressed Jenny. He then continued to blindfold her and kissed her entire body starting at her forehead and moving downwards in spirals until he reached her toes. His excitement and arousal knew no bounds as there was not a word of protest today. He smiled at himself. Finally, finally she was not rejecting him. Finally, he would be able to make love to her like he had always dreamed of. Finally, he would enjoy their union. In the next few minutes, Peter experienced pleasure like he never had, not even when he lost his virginity in college, and not even like how he had on his honeymoon with his first wife. He felt uniquely liberated as he came into his wife, grunting all the time, without worrying about what the neighbors thought.

A couple hours later, Peter called his friends and gave them the news about Jenny's suicide. She had killed herself that afternoon before he had gotten back from work.

What is intriguing in the story is how Peter never noticed that jenny was already dead when he was making love to her. Probably, he was so excited to even notice. That was a melodramatic story with a twisted ending. Thanks for the short story. God bless.

I would have to say I am not entirely happy with this story...

Its not the question of me feeling uncomfortable and neither am I unconvinced about the fact that husbands do this to wives.

What I feel is that the whole having sex while his wife lays dead and getting satisfaction thing is a bit incredulous. I mean, unless he is heavily into necrophilia, there is no way he could not have realized it!

I'm sort of like dumbfounded after reading this on.. I know you often make your stories real tragic at times.. but this time there was just something else..

So what happened between Jenny and Peter.. Was it love..? or was their marriage an hurried decision taken out of mere lust.? Was sex the only objective.? What happens to women who have such problems, in the real world..?

I'm seriously disturbed, Soli.!

Take Care and God Bless!

Fantastic story. Did you by any chance read my lame-ass attempt at one? It was called pink and it has some similarities to this.

Stupidosaur said...

Half way through it was obvious what would happen. Considering who wrote the story and the initial warning, and 'sudden self-control' of Jenny overcoming her problem which is not so voluntarily controlable.

Or maybe it was not very obvious. Then I have overactive imagination.

Stupidosaur said...

but isn't therapy better than suicide?

(Oh wait, even those who commit suicide could have better gone for therapy rather than commit suicide. Maybe I am asking wrong questions of an 'ideal world')

Stupidosaur said...

But in ideal world nobody would want to commit suicide in first place. So ideal choice between suicide vs therapy would be out of question

What do you think happened between Jenny and Peter? Its very open to interpretation. I think loneliness caused them to seek each other out and live under illusion of a perfect world. Women who do have such problems can receive treatment to live their lives better.

@ Stupid,

I know the warning makes it obvious but I really did not want to traumatize the young ones who read my blogs such as Meghna and Aayushi. So I would sacrifice the unpredictability part for their protection.

How do we know that she has never tried therapy in the past? How do we know that suicide is her first resort? Such things cannot be deciphered from a short story especially when she has such a loaded past.

Commenting again after reading so many comments saying he should have known he was making love to a dead body!
I think the only thing dat could make him think something like that was because she wasn't moving at all or had no expressions.
But considering she had such problems, it is understandable he thought she was just controlling the pain by lying still.
The time of death is not known...Rigor mortis sets in around 4-6 hrs after death, give and take a few depending on conditions.
He definitely isnt a necrophiliac as he didnt know she was dead and then d story isnt as shocking.

There is only one point I really find difficult to u'stand is that Peter was so u'standing, kind and loved Jenny so much that he was also being supportive by asking her to see a Therapist, then how did he culminate as a necrophile. Yes, who would know that he already could have been one but there were no signs???

U see how you got the readers so involved now! :)

Nice story.

P.S. When I read the first few lines I almost thought it would end like the movie 'Feast of Love'.

Solitaire said...

@ Ankur,

Hmmmm interesting perspective. So you thought that she gave up herself so that her husband could make love to her dead body and view it as a gift?

Solitaire said...

@ Lakshmi,

Aww..its ok!

Solitaire said...

@ Pavi,

I am not that well-versed with necrophilia but it could be that this was the first instance that his symptom showed. For every disorder, there is a first time. Not that people are born with it. If you look up the reasons why people engage in this behavior, you will understand why he chose to make love to her corpse.

Thanks for looking it up yourself. :)
I don't like explaining disorders here.

Solitaire said...

@ Rushabhh,

This is strictly fictional but such things do happen. Rarely, though.

Solitaire said...

@ Amit,

Thanks!!! I know I write quite some morbid stories and felt like this one would be more disturbing than others since it contains concepts quite foreign to those who are not in the same field as me.

Solitaire said...

Why do you assume that he did not know all along?

Solitaire said...

@ Liberal,

Thanks a ton!

Ankur said...

**So you thought that she gave up herself so that her husband could make love to her dead body and view it as a gift?

yes... i thought of it, coz when one wants to make other happy, either they participate themselves in the act or give up on themselves!!

technically, its not possible to make love happily with a dead body, but the purity in ur story is real!!! :)

sometimes, ur story depicts a lot of pain, and u let it come out!! :)

and thanks abt the perspective, but thats wat i have learned, its better to give up sometimes to make sm1 else happy!! everyone has a story, isnt!! :)

Solitaire said...

@ Pranay,

Thanks!! I do write morbid stories because this is the reality in many people's lives and I see this everyday day in and day out. I would really like to write about things that make people smile but somehow I feel that is quite shallow and short-lived.

Solitaire said...

@ Pranay,

I like how my story is really short and a quick read. Some people interpret it as loose endings. I like to say that I am leaving quite a bit of imagination to the readers. Some say he was unaware that he was making love to a dead body and that is quite plausible with the explanation you have given. Some say that she did it on purpose for love and that he knew it and accepted the gift. And some say he is suffering from necrophilia ( an idea that I agree with). Its all up to you! No right or wrong answers.

Solitaire said...

@ Prakhar,

No jigsaw, only solitaire...with a few cracks here and there. :)

Solitaire said...

@ Hiren,

:)

Thanks! Yes it is purely fiction. I know it seems like there are some loose ends but I guess that happens when I want to keep it short.

Solitaire said...

Yes, who would know that he already could have been one but there were no signs???

What are the signs of someone being necrophile? do you know? Cos I surely don't. And whether or not he was understanding all of those two years or not is a mystery, right?

***U see how you got the readers so involved now! :)

Nice story.

Haha!! Good for me! :)

***P.S. When I read the first few lines I almost thought it would end like the movie 'Feast of Love'.

I might be a good story-writer but bad at watching and remembering movies. What is this movie about?

You are a very gifted writer. Bit dark for sure :)But thats just you are going for.
You seem pretty aware of the darkness of this world and dont sugar coat much. Perhaps your work brings you too close to reality every day.
Not every writer have the guts to write about the dark side of the world since people expect fiction to transport them from the real world to a dreamland.
Keep up the gud work and keep resisting the pressure to write the run of the mill "they lived happily after" fairy tales. We have enough of those :)

Oh god! This is sooo disturbing! :’( How, someone who loves the woman, can treat her like this?! What disturbs me more is HOW can he do this to her? How can a person have sex with his own dead wife, and njoy it. Didn’t he love her? Or that was only lust? Is a woman the only object of sex? If she’s suffering form vaginismus then does she become useless? Way did they get married at first then? Didn’t she tell him abt her? If she really wanted to make him happy, why she didn’t go to the doctor?! I don’t know if the story is true, but no proper communication lead to whatever happened with Peter and Jenny! That’s what implies to me. When you have problem, you shud talk and solve it.. :(
